RAJSHAHI, May 10: The Rajshahi district administration has announced the "Mango Calendar" for the current season, setting a structured timeline for harvesting and marketing of mangoes across the region.
According to the schedule, mango harvesting will begin on May 15 with the entry of Guti variety mangoes into the market.
The announcement was made on Sunday during a meeting on mango transportation, harvesting and marketing held at the office of the deputy commissioner (DC) in Rajshahi. The meeting was chaired by DC Kazi Shahidul Islam and attended by mango growers, traders, and officials from the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE).
Under the schedule, Gopalbhog mangoes will be allowed for harvesting and marketing from May 22, followed by Ranipasand and Laxmanbhog from May 25. The popular Himsagar (Khirsapat) variety will be available in the market from May 30.
In subsequent phases, Langra and Banana Mango varieties will be harvested from June 10, while Amrapali and Fazli will be allowed from June 15. Later, BARI Mango-4 will be available from July 5, Ashwina from July 10, and Gourmati from July 15.
Officials also decided that Katimon and BARI Mango-11 varieties may
be harvested throughout the year.
The meeting noted that some early-ripening Guti mangoes may be harvested ahead of schedule subject to approval from the respective upazila agriculture officer.
DC Kazi Shahidul Islam said the schedule has been introduced, as in previous years, to prevent the marketing of immature mangoes and to ensure safe and quality produce for consumers.
He further warned that legal action would be taken against those harvesting or marketing mangoes before the officially designated dates.
