RAJSHAHI, Sept 23: Revenue earnings of Sona Masjid land port has surpassed the target during the period from February to June 2019, informed Dr Shamil Uddin Ahmed Shimul, MP, Shibganj constituency, at a press conference in Chapainawabganj recently.
Dr. Shamil Uddin Ahmed said the target of revenue earning from February to June-2019 was fixed at Tk 1.36 billion but due to cooperation from all concerned, the revenue earning surpassed the target to Tk 1.87 billion.
He said activities of Sona Masjid were once almost suspended due to various problems including mismanagement, realisation of tolls, corruption and bad road communication.
Due to absence of any activity, the port was termed as the dry port. But, after he took oath as an MP, he initiated to remove all encumbrances and irregularities of the port activities.
Steps have already been taken to develop the port so that activities of import and export can be accelerated. He pledged to increase facilities for importers and exporters at the port so that they can continue a hassle-free business.
The press conference was attended, among others, by Ruhul Amin, Vice-President of Chapainawabganj district Awami League, Abdul Wadood, former MP and General Secretary of AL, ARM Azri, Mayor of Shibganj Municipality, leaders of various organisations of Sona Masjid Land port and local AL leaders.
Meanwhile, Zamat Khan, General Secretary of Rajshahi Raskha Sangram Parishad at a statement has demanded to turn Sona Masjid Land Port into an international one.
