At least 14 houses were torched in sporadic clashes between two groups of villagers over establishing supremacy at Lakshmiganj area in Madaripur.
Witnesses said two groups of people led by a ward councillor of Madaripur municipality Moniruzzaman Aktar Hawladar and Enamul Chowdhury, a local of Lakshmiganj, clashed with each other on Friday night and Saturday morning.
According to UNB, the two groups exploded dozens of hand bombs, vandalised and torched at least 14 houses. Chase and counter chase incidents took place intermittently.
Officer-in-charge of Madaripur Police Station Md Kamrul Hasan said adequate number of law enforcers have been deployed in the area to fend off any further agitation.
