Around 20,000 subscribers of Bakhrabad Gas Distribution Ltd in Chandpur district have been encountering a lot of inconveniences since Wednesday as inclement weather caused sudden disruption of gas supply to dwelling houses.

Consequent upon the gas outage, they have been suffering awfully.

The gas supply disruption is worst in Molla Bari Road area, Professor Para, GT Road area, Bhuiyabari area, Nazir Para, Adalatpara, Pal Para, Chowdhury Para, Ghosepara, Muslimpara, Puranbazar, Sreeramdi area, and many other neighbourhoods of the town, on the outskirts- Baburhat, Wireless Bazar, Hajiganj, Kochua- and a few other places of the district where residents started experiencing almost no flow of gas in the pipeline since Wednesday morning.

Housewives Keya Begum, Aporna Saha, Nazma Begum, Swapna Begum, Sabina Akter, Hosne Ara Begum, Beauti Begum and many others complained that due to the sudden suspension of gas supply, they had to buy foods and breakfast items from outside shops on Wednesday and Thursday morning.

They further said that prior to the suspension of gas supply, a notice should have been issued well ahead for the convenience of all consumers so that they could take prior preparation. But nothing like this was done.

Talking to the FE, Chandpur Gas Distribution Office manager Engineer Mir Fazle Rabbi said, "Due to the prevailing inclement weather in the sea, LNG gas supply from ship at Moheskhali Terminal Ghat was hampered and suspended and that's why, this awkward situation has occurred creating inconveniences for the consumers of Cumilla, Chandpur and Brahmanbaria districts."

Right from Moheskhali Terminal Ghat , gas is delivered to Cumilla and Laksham's Bijra and from this area, gas is usually supplied to Chandpur.

For lack of gas , in addition to several thousand consumers, a total of five CNG gas and refueling stations on the Chandpur-Cumilla Regional Highway in Chandpur Sadar have not been able to sell gas to the CNG-run auto-rickshaws.

As a result, commuters had to pay double transport fares on way to and from offices in Chandpur town and outskirts- said some government and private office employees.

Moreover, the 150 mw power plant in Chandpur Balurmath has also been facing problems for want of gas supply.

Bakhrabad Gas Distribution Ltd manager Engineer Mir Fazle Rabbi expressed the hope that as soon as the weather condition improves, normal gas supply to the households will be restored, saying the general consumers are requested to wait until then with patience.
