Suspected saboteurs cut down trees and placed them on the Dhaka-Chattogram railway tracks in the Maheshpur area of Feni Sadar upazila early Thursday, but a major accident was averted thanks to the prompt action of the Railway Engineering Department.
According to railway police, a routine early-morning patrol spotted tree branches lying on the tracks near Alokdiya in Maheshpur and immediately removed them, ensuring uninterrupted train movement.
Feni Railway Station Master Md Harun said, “Due to timely notice, a major accident could be prevented. Train services remain normal, and no schedules have been disrupted.”
Dipak Dewan, in charge of the Feni Railway Police outpost, said necessary legal action will be taken against those responsible for blocking the tracks, according to a UNB report.
He added that on November 8, a similar sabotage attempt was made when miscreants dismantled railway components near the Dakshin Sahadebpur railway bridge.
Meanwhile, supporters of the Awami League staged a demonstration in favour of the ‘lockdown’, set fire to wood, and tried to block the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Fatepur of Sadar upazila around 10 pm on Wednesday.
Witnesses said 15–20 masked individuals chanted slogans in support of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and former MP Nizam Uddin Hazari before leaving within ten minutes.
However, police have no record of the protest, said Mohammad Samsuzzaman, officer-in-charge of Feni Sadar Police Station.
Besides, several youths, suspected to be supporters of the Chhatra League, attempted to block the Feni-Parshuram regional road by setting tyres on fire near Chithlia Muktijoddha Complex around 10 pm.
Parshuram Model Police Station OC Mohammad Nurul Hakim said no casualties occurred as law enforcers remained on alert.
