NILPHAMARI, Jun 05: The Saidpur Railway Workshop is repairing 90 coaches for smooth journey of home bound railway passengers during the upcoming Eid festival. Some of the coaches would be used in special trains and the rest would be attached with intercity trains as extra coaches.
Workshop sources said in the meantime 45 repaired coaches has been handed over to Paksey and Lalmonirhat railway division and the rest 45 repaired coaches would be ready within June 10. The initiative would enable railway to provide transport to extra 50,000 passengers or beyond.
Sources said this is a record repairing and renovation work of the railway. Out of these 90 coaches 59 coaches are of broad gauge (BG) and 31 are of meter gauge (MG) trains.
Sources said despite hefty target of urgent repairing, manpower shortage hampering proper functioning of the workshop. At present the workshop has only 1008 manpower as against the requirement of 3141 worker.
While contacted Assistant Engineer and In charge of repairing works Dilsad Karim Abu Hena said the workers are also working extra time to complete the assignment.
While contacted Divisional Supervisor (DS) of Syedpur railway workshop Kudrat-E-Khuda said the workers are working sincerely and the works would be completed within the stipulated time.
