Inhabitants of various upazilas of Sunamganj district have been facing problem due to the poor state of the Jamalganj connecting road from the district town for long.
Potholes have been developed in the 19-km road from Kathoir point on the Sylhet-Sunamganj highway to Jamalganj upazila headquarters, causing much to the pedestrians and vehicles.
A number of locals alleged that suffering of the locals mounted as the authorities took no steps even over a year after the devastating floods hit the district last year. Almost all the roads in the region were badly damaged. The people suffer much while transporting patients, elderly people as well as female ones.
In addition to the people of Jamalganj, Derai and Sunamganj upazilas and district town a good number of inhabitants of the neighbouring Dharmapasha, Madhyanagar upazilas of Sunamganj and Mohanganj upazila of Netrokona use this important road everyday.
An official at the LGED said, "The road was washed away by the devastating floods last year. Some urgent repair works have been done. We are trying to do some major works on the important road this fiscal. The higher authorities had already been informed of the situation."
