Speeding truck kills schoolgirl in Satkhira

In a tragic incident, a schoolgirl was crushed under the wheels of a truck at Hajipur intersection in Ashashuni upazila of Satkhira region on Tuesday morning.

The deceased was identified as Priti Swarnaker, 13, daughter of Parimal Swarnakar of Katakhali village and a class VII student of a local high school.

The accident took place as a cement-laden truck ran over Priti while she was going to school on foot, leaving her dead on the spot, said Biplab Kumar Debnath, officer-in-charge of Ashashuni Police station.

Meanwhile, the angry mob vandalised the truck and assaulted the driver and helper. Later, they were handed over to the police.

Locals also locked into a clash with the police when they were trying to bring the situation under control, said the OC.

The clash left an assistant sub-inspector injured, UNB reports.

Additional police forces have been deployed in the area to avoid any unwanted situation.
