Police on Wednesday recovered the dismembered body of a college student from railway tracks in Sylhet’s South Surma upazila.

The deceased was identified as Motiur Rahman, 21, son of late Kutu Mia from Pani Chora village in Jaintiapur upazila and a second-year honours student at MC College. He used to work as a teacher at a local madrasha.

His body was found near Parairchak area in the morning and sent to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

Railway police, quoting the family, informed that Motiur had been mentally upset after some personal videos were spread on social media.

Police suspect he might have taken his own life due to social embarrassment.

Motiur’s elder brother Riazul Islam, said, “He was the youngest and dearest in our family. He left our sister’s house in the morning and did not return.”

Abdul Quddus, Officer-in-Charge of Sylhet Railway Police Station, said the body has been sent for autopsy and an investigation is underway.
