Cultivation of Transplanted Aman (T-Aman) paddy is going on in full swing in Gopalganj district during the current season.
According to the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Gopalganj, a target was set to cultivate Aman paddy including Upasi, High Yielding Variety (HYV) and local variety
on 12,765 hectares of land in the district this season and the production target was fixed at 33,827 tonnes.
Md. Wobayed Sarif, 48, a farmer of Singipara village under Borni union of Tungipara upazila of the district, said he cultivated Aman paddy on one acre of land (100 decimals)
with new origin 'BRRI-DHAN-103 in the current year. Now he is passing a busy time planting the crop.
Sabuj Halder, sub-assistant agriculture officer (SAAO) of Borni union, Block No -6, told this correspondent that a total of 450 hectares of land have been brought under T-Aman farming in Borni union this year. About 2,450 farmers are involved in cultivation of the paddy variety where maximum origin is BRRI-DHAN-103.
As a result, farmers are more benefited from the crop, SAAO Sabuj said.
Julhas Sheikh (50), another farmer of Munshir-char village of Borni union under Tungipara
upazila in Gopalganj district said he cultivated T-Aman paddy of the BRRI-DHAN-87 variety on two bighas (104 decimald) of land in the current year. But the condition of the plants is satisfactory.
"If the weather condition remains favorable, I will get about 70 maunds of paddy," farmer Julhas said.
?Md. Rakibul Islam, upazila agriculture officer (UAO), Tungipara upazila, said a total of 1,565 hectares of land have been brought under T-Aman cultivation in the upazila in the current year. They supplied agri-inputs to the farmers for Aman production.
He added in this region T-Aman cultivation needs a small investment but return will be big, compared to any other crops.
Abdul Kadir Sarder, deputy director (DD), of the DAE, Gopalganj, told the FE, "To make T-Aman cultivation successful, they supply fertilizers and pesticides with necessary equipment to the farmers."
