Ten more dengue cases were reported in Bagerhat district in the last 24 hours until Monday morning, reports UNB.
Civil Surgeon Dr GKM Shamsuzzaman said they have so far recorded 63 cases.
“Eight of them are currently undergoing treatment at hospitals,” he said. “Most of the patients are from Dhaka.”
Shamsuzzaman said hospitals in the district are providing free dengue tests.
The mosquito-borne disease has so far claimed 40 lives, according to government data. But unofficial estimates suggest that the number is much higher.
Bangladesh is struggling to deal with the latest outbreak of dengue, which putting severe strain on an already overwhelmed medical system.
Since January, 41,178 people were hospitalised. Of them, 32,384 had made full recoveries. As of Sunday, 8,754 patients, including children, are being treated at hospitals.
Densely-populated megacity Dhaka is at the centre of the outbreak. With millions of people from Dhaka going to villages to celebrate Eid, the dengue situation is likely to worsen as infected people move the virus within and between communities and places.
