Tourist cop harasses couple, gets suspended

A tourist police officer has been suspended on charge of harassing a couple at the Laboni Point of Cox's Bazar sea beach.

The authorities concerned took the suspension decision on Tuesday.

Sources concerned said Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Md Masud was closed after Md Quayed-e-Azam, local program officer of UNICEF, filed a written complaint against him with the district administration on Monday.

Victim Azam alleged that when he was sitting at the Laboni Sea Beach Point with his wife on Sunday, ASI Masud along with two other policemen asked him and his wife to show their marriage deed after inquiring that whether or not they are husband and wife.

Threatening the couple that they would be sent to jail, the tourist police publicly harassed them, the victim complained.

Additional Police Super (Media) of Tourist Police Fazle Rabbi said Md Masud has been closed already in this connection.

A two-member probe committee was formed and an investigation was underway, he added.
