Two die as train rams motorcycle in Gazipur

Two people were dead after their motorcycle was rammed by a train in Gazipur on Thursday night.

The incident occurred around 10:00 pm in the Kholapara area of the Gazipur City Corporation on the Dhaka-Rajshahi rail line, according to Sub Inspector Nadir Uz-Zaman, chief of the Joydebpur Railway Junction Police Camp.

The deceased were identified as Hafizur Rahman Ripon (45) and Mahmudul Hasan Chanchal (38), as per a bdnews24.com report.

Ripon was a cloth scrap trader, while Chanchal worked at a hospital.

Citing locals, SI Nadir said that Ripon and Chanchal were headed from the Kinabari area to Kaliakoir’s Sakaswar by motorcycle and were passing the rail crossing in the Kholapara area when they were hit by a Dhaka-bound train and died on the spot.

Nadir said the two bodies were recovered from the scene after the accident was reported.

They were handed over to their families without autopsies at their request.
