Two people have reportedly been killed and 10 others injured in a clash over a power struggle in Narsingdi’s Raipura Upazila.
The incident occurred at Mouhinipur in Chanpur Union on Friday morning between the "Boro Bari" clan and the "Jan Mahmud Bari" clan, according to Sujon Chandra Sarkar, Narsingdi superintendent of police (crime).
Freedom fighter Abdus Salam leads the Boro Bari clan while Shamsu Member leads the Jan Mahmud Bari clan.
Momen Sarkar, chairman of the Chanpur Union council, confirmed the news of the two deaths to bdnews24.com.
The victims are 23-year-old Amin and 35-year-old Bashar, both identified by single names. They are members of the Boro Bari clan.
Locals say that members of both clans are among the injured, but their names and identities have yet to be confirmed.
Members of the Boro Bari clan had not been in the area for a few months due to a prior dispute, locals said. When they tried to re-enter the area on Friday morning, the Jan Mahmud Bari clan tried to stop them.
The clash led to two men being killed on the spot and 10 other people being injured.
The situation in the area has now calmed, said SP Sujon. Police are preparing to take legal action over the incident.
The two bodies are at the Raipura Hospital and preparations are underway to send them to the morgue at Narsingdi Sadar Hospital for autopsy, he said.
