Two men have been killed in an attack stemming from a dispute over land in Sirajganj Sadar Upazila.

The incident occurred in Bagbati's Ichhamati village on Thursday, said Sirajul Islam, chief of Sadar Police Station.

The dead men were identified as Al Amin Sheikh, 32 and Amin Khan, 35.

Two groups have been embroiled in a prolonged conflict over land in the village, Sirajul said, citing locals. Consequently, the two men were attacked by rivals on Thursday night.

The assailants hacked both the victims with sharp weapons and fled the scene. Amin died on the spot, while Al Amin passed away in a Dhaka hospital on Friday.

Security has been beefed up in the area following the incident, the Sirajul said. “Currently, the situation is under control.”

One of the bodies has been kept in Sirajganj’s Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib General Hospital morgue. The other one is on its way back from Dhaka.

Police are preparing to file a case over the incident.
