Two people have been killed and several others injured after a truck ploughed into a bus that had just been involved in a collision with another truck in Faridpur’s Bhanga Upazila.
The accident occurred on the Dhaka-Khulna highway near the Tarail bus stand area around 2:45am on Friday, said Md Habibur Rahman, a sub-inspector at Bhanga Police Station.
One of the victims was identified as Farzana, 30, a resident of Bera Upazila in Pabna. The other was a 35-year-old man whose identity has not yet been confirmed. Both were passengers on the bus.
The injured passengers were taken to Bhanga Upazila Health Complex for treatment.
Habibur said a “Jamuna Line” bus travelling from Dhaka to Satkhira first struck the back of a truck, damaging the front end of the bus.
“Some passengers got off and stood in front of the bus,” he said.
“A short while later, a goods-laden truck hit the Jamuna Line bus from behind, seriously injuring 10 to 12 passengers who were standing there. An unidentified male passenger died on the spot.”
Locals helped rush the injured to the Bhanga Upazila Health Complex, where doctors pronounced Farzana dead, the officer said.
Farzana’s one-and-a-half-year-old daughter Jannatul was among the injured and later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
The bus and the truck have been taken to the Shibchar Highway Police Station, according to police.
