Two people have been killed and another injured after a truck ploughed into a motorcycle in Gaibandha’s Gobindaganj Upazila.

The crash occurred around 11pm on Thursday on the Rangpur–Dhaka highway near the BRAC office at Fashitola Bazar, according to police.

The two men who died were identified as Abdul Jalil Roni, 42, and Siddiqur Rahman, 45. Both were riding the motorcycle at the time of the crash, according to bdnews24.com.

A third rider, Shariful Islam, 45, was seriously injured and has been admitted to the Gobindaganj Upazila Health Complex.

Police and witnesses said the three men were travelling towards Bogura when the incident occurred. As the motorcycle was entering a flyover on the Dhaka–Rangpur highway, a speeding truck struck it from behind.

The impact threw the riders onto the road, killing two of them at the scene and leaving the third injured.

Police arrived shortly afterwards and recovered the bodies during the night before handing them over to the victims’ families, said Mozafar Hossain, chief of the Gobindaganj Highway Police Station.

The truck involved in the crash has been seized, but the driver and his assistant fled the scene, he added.
