A woman was raped in a rubber plantation hill in Sylhet, and the police arrested two people in connection with the incident.
The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon in the Chharagang area of. Khadim Nagar Union, Sylhet Airport Police Station.
The arrested people are Mohammad Rakib Mia from Doluipara village under Shah Paran Police Station, and Abdur Rahim from Gol Pirer Bazar in the North Mokam area of the same police station, as per a UNB report.
According to police and local sources, the woman is mentally unstable. She was taken to the rubber plantation in Chharagang area and raped. During the incident, workers of the plantation saw the victim. The locals later rescued the woman and took her to Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) ADC (Media) Mohammad Saiful Islam said, “During initial questioning, the two arrested individuals confessed to being involved in the rape. Legal action is currently underway.”
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Airport Police Station, Syed Anisur Rahman, said, “the police have launched an investigation into the matter and have collected CCTV footage from surrounding areas.”
