Woman turns self-reliant through flower gardening

PABNA, July 16: A housewife has become a successful entrepreneur who earns a good sum of money every month from her flower garden she made on the rooftop of their house in Ishwardi municipality of the district.

Jannatul Ferdous Juthi, wife of Enamul Haque Babu of Madhya Arunkhola village, has made a garden of red, blue, purple, yellow and green flowers. Wherever you look, you can see a fair of colorful plants at her flower garden. Now, many people are interested in making flower gardens like Juthi.

Although Juthi started with a few plants in 2019, her collection now includes more than 300 domestic and foreign cactus and succulent species.

And she is earning nearly Tk 15,000 a month by selling saplings online and offline. She is also earning Tk 15,000 by selling flowers every month.

In five years, her garden has flourished with more than 300 cactus and succulent plants of various types from home and abroad, including Angel Wing, Christmas, Ladyfinger, Parodia, Rat's Tail, Barrel, Moon, Aloe, Aloe,Ghritkanchan, Zebra Plant, Echevarria, Air Plant, Sansevieria, Patharkuchi.

Although she has started flower gardening as a hobby, her garden is now a source of her income for Juthi.

Juthi said that during the corona period while sitting at home, the plan of gardening came to her mind.

"First, we collect some cactus and succulent plants on the roof to increase the beauty. But with the passage of time, the investment and the collection of seedlings were gradually increased."

Currently, there are hundreds of local and foreign seedlings in my garden. Juthi also said that women always face a social barrier to become self-reliant. Not everyone has the opportunity to move outside. This initiative will further encourage the women who want to be self-reliant from home.

"I will always help those who are interested in making a garden like me with advice and collection of seedlings."

When asked about the flowers, Shahnaz Parveen, associate professor of Botany department at Pabna Government Edward College, told The Financial Express that overall a flower garden is a living canvas, allowing gardeners to express their creativity and love of nature through a harmonious tapestry of flowers, turning any outdoor space into a vibrant and charming sanctuary.
