The Chattogram City Bus Terminal is being constructed at Kulgaon in Hathazari of the city.
The Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) is implementing the project on 8.10 acres of land for 12 routes of north Chattogram now.
Chief Engineer of CCC Rafiqul Islam said construction of the Chattogram City Bus Terminal at Kulgaon under Hathazari in the city is in progress now.
"Contractors have filled up low land with earth for the terminal now. The construction work started last month," he added.
He said, "According to the master plan of Chattogram city, there were 28 acres of land fixed for the Chattogram City Bus Terminal. We are constructing the bus terminal at Kulgaon in Hathazari of the city on 8.10 acres of land for 12 routes of north Chattogram. Later, we will construct another bus terminal for south Chattogram."
"The project of the Chattogram City Bus Terminal for 12 routes of north Chattogram was approved in October 2018. But, the project was delayed for the coronavirus outbreak and complication over land acquisition."
Now, the CCC is implementing the project at a cost of Tk2,970 million (Tk 297 crore).
Of the total cost, a total of Tk 2,605 million (Tk260.5 crore) has been spent for land acquisition," he said.
Sources said the project will be implemented in phases.
The first phase of the project is likely to be completed in the December of the current year.
It may be mentioned that there was no bus terminal for city and district buses in the port city.
Although the Chattogram Master Plan included the bus terminal for future Chattogram, the authorities did not take step to implement the master plan so far for constructing the bus stands.
However, at last the Chattogram City Bus Terminal at Kulgaon in Hathazari of the city on 8.10 acres of land is being constructed now.
