A Dhaka Court on Monday accepted to hold a hearing on two revision petitions filed seeking an order to cancel the bail of six Transcom Group officials, including its CEO Simeen Rahman, in two cases involving the alleged fraudulent acquisition of the majority shares of Transcom Limited and the creation of a fake family settlement deed.
The petitions also sought that the accused be placed on remand.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Jakir Hossain Galib accepted the revision petitions and set January 16 for further hearing on the issue of cancelation bail and granting remand for the accused.
Earlier, Shahzreh Huq, the younger daughter of Transcom group's founder Chairman Latifur Rahman, on May 28 this year filed two separate revision petitions with the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court.
The other accused in the case are Transcom Group's Executive Director (Corporate Affairs-Law) Md Fakhruzzaman Bhuiyan, Director (Corporate Finance) Kamrul Hasan, Director (Corporate Finance) Abdullah Al Mamun, Assistant Company Secretary Mohammad Mosaddek and Manager (Company Secretary) Abu Yusuf Md Siddique.
On February 22 this year, Shahzreh Huq filed three cases with Gulshan Police Station on charges of money embezzlement, property grabbing, and illegal transfer of company shares by the accused officials.
After that, the police arrested several accused in the case. They were later granted bail, and Simeen Rahman, who was abroad then, surrendered to the court and was granted bail after returning to the country.
Two petitions were submitted on 28 May to the CMM Court seeking cancellation of the accused's bail and placing them on remand in two separate cases. On 29 May the court rejected both applications. Later two petitions were filed seeking revision of the May 29 order.
Lawyer Aminul Hoque appeared in the court hearing on behalf of the petitioner while lawyer Siddique Ullah Miah represented the Transcom CEO.
