A Dhaka court has ordered the confiscation of 866 decimals of land and four flats registered in the names of the former National Board of Revenue (NBR) official Md Matiur Rahman and his two wives and children.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad As-Shams Jaglul Hossain passed the order on Thursday, following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Earlier in the day, the ACC applied to the court for an order to attach the four flats in Bashundhara and Dhanmondi, registered under the names of Farzana Rahman Ipsita, Matiur’s daughter, Laila Kaniz, his first wife and Shammi Akhtar, his second wife, and 866 decimals of land registered under the names of Matiur, his son Ahmed Taufiqur Rahman and his daughter Farzana.
After the hearing, the court granted the commission's request.
On June 24 this year, a Dhaka court imposed a travel ban on Matiur Rahman and his family amid a wealth probe by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Matiur found himself in hot water following a social media post by Mushfiqur Rahman Ifat, his son with his second wife. The post, which featured a video of a sacrificial goat for Eid-ul-Azha, claimed the animal was purchased for Tk 1.2 million, sparking a firestorm of controversy.
