A Dhaka court has ordered the attachment of 36 bighas of land in Gazipur belonging to Salman F Rahman, the private industry and investment advisor to ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
The court also directed authorities to freeze an IFIC Bank account held in Salman’s name, which investigators say contains Tk 546.6 million.
The order was issued on Monday by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Foyez, following a petition from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), according to the agency’s spokesman Akhtarul Islam.
The graftbusters say the petition is linked to an ongoing investigation into allegations that a group of 31 individuals, including Salman, misappropriated funds from investors.
Case investigator and ACC Assistant Director Sajjad Hossain sought the court’s permission to confiscate the land and block the bank account as part of the inquiry.
