A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of income tax records of Shafiq Siddiqi, husband of Sheikh Rehana, in connection with an investigation into alleged illicit wealth amounting to nearly Tk 87.5 million.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Faiz passed the order on Tuesday after a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), according to bench assistant Riyaz Hossain.

ACC Assistant Director Ismail Hossain sought the order, stating in the petition that Shafiq had allegedly acquired assets worth Tk 86.54 million beyond his known sources of income and remained in possession of the wealth.

A case has been filed against him under Section 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, and is currently under investigation.

The ACC told the court that for the sake of a fair investigation, it was necessary to examine the accused’s income and expenditure records and determine whether he owns additional assets.

The court was requested to order the seizure and review of his income tax documents from the 2013–14 to 2024–25 fiscal years under Section 19 of the ACC Act, 2004, and Rule 20 of the ACC Rules, 2007.
