A Dhaka court has scrapped a bail petition by Awami League MP Haji Salim and sent him to jail over a 2007 graft case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission.

Salim had previously turned himself into the court to request bail in the case, in which he has been sentenced to 10 years in prison, reports bdnews24.com.

Judge Shahidul Islam of the Dhaka Seventh Special Judge’s Court made the decision on Sunday.

Salim’s lawyers also requested to grant the first-class privileges in jail as a member of parliament. Judge Shahidul ordered that the decision on whether to grant the privileges should be taken in line with the prison code.
