Cox’s Bazar ‘shootout’ leaves two dead

A ‘shootout’ in Cox’s Bazar has left two people dead on Friday morning. According to police it was a drive to nab a drug suspect.

The incident took place at Khurermukh in Sabrang union in Teknaf, said Teknaf Police Station chief Pradeep Kumar Das.

Both the dead men have been identified as Mohammad Saddam and were known for their links to drug trafficking.

Mohammed Saddam, aged 30 years was the son of Sultan Ahmed and was named in four cases.

The other suspect was a 35-year-old son of Tofael Ahmed and was named in seven cases.

When the police team arrested Mohammed Saddam, his accomplices opened fire on the lawmen to get him freed, police retaliated in self defence.

At one point the criminals fled and two people were found shot on the scene, bdnews24 reported.

Both of them were declared dead when taken to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex.

Police recovered 20,000 yaba pills, three rifles and bullets from the scene. Four police members were also injured in the incident.

The bodies were sent to Cox’s Bazar Central Hospital morgue for autopsy.
