The aircraft that crashed into the campus of Milestone School and College at Diabari area in Uttara on Monday was not a training aircraft, but a fully combat-capable warplane, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Tuesday.
In an official statement, the ISPR said, “Some media outlets have mistakenly reported the aircraft as a training plane. With due respect, we want to clarify once again that the aircraft was a combat-ready warplane participating in a training mission.”
The tragic incident occurred on Monday around 1:00 pm when the aircraft took off and later crashed into Milestone School and College. It hit a building, causing a devastating fire.
So far, at least 27 people have been reported dead, including 25 children, according to Md Sayedur Rahman, special assistant to the chief adviser for the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Over 150 people have been injured in the disaster.
On Monday, the ISPR reported that the warplane faced mechanical failure shortly after taking off from Bangladesh Air Force Base A K Khandaker in Kurmitola.
