10 held over photographer murder to make TikTok video: Police

Police have arrested 10 youths in connection with the murder of photographer Nurul Islam during snatching his cameras at Jafrabad Pulpar Rishipara area of Dhaka’s Hazaribagh for making TikTok video.

They were arrested on Tuesday in separate drives in Dhaka and Mymensingh said DMP Ramna Division Deputy Commissioner Md Masud Alam while briefing reporters on Wednesday at DMP media wing  centre, UNB reports. 

He said the suspects, aged between 18 and 20, plotted the crime with the aim of using the stolen DSLR cameras to make TikTok videos.

Police also recovered two DSLR cameras, a machete, a large knife used in the killing.

The arrestees are Naeem Ahmed (20), Shaheen Akand alias Shahinul (20), Shaheen Chowkidar (22), Rahim Sarker (19), Nayan Ahmed (19), Ridoy Madbor (18), Abdur Razzak alias Raza (19), Anwar Hossain (19), Shahidul Islam (20), and Mohammad Arman (18).

Md Masud Alam said Nurul Islam used to run a Facebook photography page and worked for various events.

On May 15, he received a call from an unknown number offering him a booking for a wedding shoot with Tk 500 sent in advance via bKash.

The next evening, he was called to wait at Shankar intersection.

Nurul left his AGB Colony residence in Motijheel with his associates Mohammad Imon and Nure Alam, he said.

At Shankar bus stand, a man met them and directed them towards the Blooming Child School area in Jafrabad via an auto-rickshaw.

When they reached Jafrabad Pulpar Rishipara area at 8am a group of miscreants intercepted their vehicle.

Imon managed to escape, but Nurul was caught and brutally stabbed with sharp weapons on his head, neck, arms, and fingers.

The assailants snatched two DSLR cameras and his bag before fleeing.

Nurul was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Following the incident, Nurul’s elder brother Osman Gani filed a murder case with Hazaribagh Police Station.
