Police have arrested three people, including a madrasa superintendent, after a 10-year-old girl was raped in Kushtia’s Bheramama Upazila.
She is currently being treated at the intensive care unit (ICU) of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH).
Bheramama Police chief Md Zahedur Rahman said Saidur Rahman, the founder and superintendent of Zamilatunnesa Mohila Madrasa in Kuthibazar was arrested at a local mosque on Monday afternoon.
His wife and a female teacher were also arrested after the victim’s mother sued all three of them.
Bheramama Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Mizanur Rahman said the girl was brought to the healthcare facility unconscious on Sunday morning.
“At first, the family complained of leg aches -- but primary medical tests discovered that she had bled profusely following sexual abuse,” Mizanur said.
The girl was enrolled as a resident student of the madrasa in mid-2025.
Saidur had been living with his family on the ground floor of the building that houses the seminary located on the first floor.
Her mother told bdnews24.com that she went to bring her back home on Sunday as Eid holidays began in the madrasa, only to find her in an unconscious state.
“The wife of the madrasa superintendent told me that my daughter had a fever,” she said.
Saidur is the only male teacher at the madrasa, according to the mother, who said the number of students dropped to six or seven, down from around 45 when her daughter was admitted.
She demanded “exemplary punishment” over the alleged abuse.
