The Armed Police Battalion (APBn) has arrested a passenger carrying 1,000 yaba pills in his stomach near Dhaka's Shahjalal International Airport.

The arrestee has been identified as 32-year-old Md Raju Molla. He has been involved in drug trafficking and smuggling for a long time, the APBn said in a press release on Wednesday night.

Raju, who flew on a domestic US-Bangla Airlines flight (BS-142) from Cox’s Bazar to Dhaka while carrying the yaba, was detained from the area north of the Biman head office at Balaka Bhaban on the basis of a confidential tip-off.

Later, he was brought to the Airport APBn office, where it was confirmed that he was carrying yaba pills in his stomach.

With help from a doctor on duty at the airport, an X-ray examination found 20 oval objects in his stomach.

Later, he was taken to Kurmitola Hospital in the capital, where 20 packs of Yaba tablets wrapped in Scotch tape were removed from his stomach under the supervision of doctors.

A case has been filed against him at the Airport Police Station under the Narcotics Control Act, APBn said.
