Police have arrested 13 leaders and activists of the banned Awami League (AL) and its affiliates in the capital.
Deputy Police Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Muhammad Talebur Rahman told the media that a team of Detective Branch (DB) police from DMP made the arrests during raids at several places in the city.
The arrestees are: Agriculture Affairs Secretary of Bangshal unit of Dhaka city AL Md Obaidul Haque (60), Vice-President of Sakhipur upazila unit AL of Tangail district Md Atiqur Rahman Bulbul Mia (56), Relief and Social Affairs Secretary of central committee of Krishak League Md Amirul Islam alias Khoka Patwari (57), Assistant General Secretary of 65 ward of Jatrabari unit of Dhaka city AL Md Miniruzzaman Monir (47), Fisheries and Livestock Affairs Secretary of central committee of Awami Swechchasebak League Mahabubur Haque Helal (56), former vice- president of Dhaka city south unit of banned Bangladesh Chhatra League BCL) Md Anwar Hossain Babu (34), former president of Dania, Jatrabari unit of Dhaka city BCL Halim Ahmed (43), Organising Secretary of BCL convening committee of ward no 25 of Tejgaon, Dhaka city Syed Sabbir Ahmed (23), former convener of Sonargaon upazila in Narayangaj unit of AL Md Mahbubur Rahman Babu (55), member of AL Shamsuddin (47), former chairman of Baluka upazila Parishad, Mymensingh Abul Kalam Azad (52) and Bangshal ward unit of Dhaka AL president Nitai Chan Ghosh alias Manto Ghosh (66).
The DC Muhammad Talebur Rahman said the DB police arrested them from 13th August afternoon to 14th August afternoon. Legal action was taken against them.
