A total of 198 murders have taken place in Dhaka over the past 10 months, according to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
The information was shared by DMP Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Talebur Rahman while speaking to reporters on Tuesday.
He said an average of around 20 murders occurred each month in Dhaka during the period, and police have solved most of the cases.
Regarding the recent killing of Jubo Dal leader Golam Kibria in Pallabi, the DC said police are actively investigating the incident. One suspect has been detained so far, while the arrest of the remaining two will help uncover key details, he added.
However, Kibria’s family has yet to file a case over the murder.
On Monday at around 6:40 pm, Golam Kibria was shot dead inside a hardware store in Block C, near the old Pallabi Police Station.
CCTV footage shows three individuals wearing masks and helmets entering the shop and shooting him at close range. Kibria tried to take cover behind a chair, and several others were present, but none could intervene as the assailants fled within just 10 seconds.
