A court in Chattogram has prohibited four sons of former Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam B Sc from leaving Bangladesh.

Judge of Chattogram Artha Rin Adalat Mozahidur Rahman issued the order on Sunday.

Those banned from leaving the country are the former minister’s sons Mujibur Rahman, Zahidul Islam, Kamrul Islam and Wahidul Islam.

Of them, Mujibur is the managing director of Sanowara Dairy Foods Limited -- owned by the former minister -- and the three others are directors of the same company.

Bench Assistant of the Court Rezaul Karim said they have been prohibited from leaving the country upon an Uttara Bank application over a Tk 300 million default loan case.

He added that the court has directed the Special Superintendent of Police (Immigration) in Dhaka to take the necessary steps regarding this ban.

Citing the Uttara Bank application, the bench assistant said that the loan taken from the bank was not secured by any property but was approved based on the defendants’ personal assurances and trust receipts.
