Police arrested on Friday a Chhatra Dal leader for allegedly injuring a businessman during an attack at Elephant Road in the capital recently.
The arrestee was identified as Mohammad Hossain alias Mithun (30).
The followers of Mithun also tried to resist the police vehicle while carrying him (Mithun) to New Market Police Station.
Later more than 50 Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal followers stormed into the police station to snatch Mithun away from the custody but failed.
The attack left four to five police personnel injured including Assistant Commissioner (AC) of New Market Zone Tarique Latif.
Police arrested six persons in connection with the attack and filed a case with New Market Police Station.
The arrestees are: Bashir Islam (28), Mohammad Hasan (21), Mohammad Imon (25), Masum Mahmud (32), Mohammad Alamin (30) and Akbar Ali.
Following a case filed earlier, police arrested Mithun early Friday (4:00 am) from 300 Feet Purbachal area in Dhaka.
Mithun was allegedly involved in collecting tolls from Dhanmondi area as per the directive of Sanjidul Hasan Emon.
According to the police, a group of miscreants on January 10 swooped on Ehteshamul Haque, senior joint general secretary of Multiplan Market Shops Owners Association, and hacked him at Elephant Road in the city.
Wahidul Hasan, senior joint general secretary of the association, filed a case with New Market Police Station.
