Construction worker beaten to death on theft suspicion in Narayanganj

A construction worker was beaten to death in a mob attack over suspected theft in Sonachora area of Bandar upazila of Narayanganj on Monday morning.

The deceased was identified as Parvez, 30, son of the late Tara Mia of Siddhirganj’s Barmashil area.  Parvez was a tenant at Bulbul Misha’s house in Dhakeshwari area of Bandar upazlia.

Khadija Begum, wife of the deceased, said Parvez was not a thief but a construction worker. “They picked him up at night, accused him of stealing electric wires, and beat him to death. I demand a proper investigation and justice,” she said.

Liakat Ali, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bandar Police Station, said that police recovered the body from the house of a man named Mesbah Uddin and sent it to Narayanganj General Hospital morgue for autopsy.

He added that legal action is underway and efforts are ongoing to arrest those involved in the killing.
