Cops nab eight 'muggers', wanted criminal in city

Police arrested eight alleged muggers and a wanted criminal during separate raids in the capital's Uttara and Paltan areas on Friday.

A team of police from Uttara West Police Station arrested the eight identified as Md Nurul Amin (22), Sakib Hossain (21), Md Parvez Ahmed Jewel (38), Md Kabir Hossain (24), Morshed Alam (30), Akash Mollah (26), Rakib (19) and Md Zia (20) from Uttara.

According to Uttara West Police Station, five mugging suspects had been arrested on Wednesday during a raid at Kamarpara Bus Stand under Uttara 10 No. Sector and at that moment, some suspected criminals managed to flee away.

Later a case was filed with Uttara West Police Station the next day in connection with the arrest of the five accused.

Following the case, applying modern information technology, a team of police arrested the eight suspected muggers who had remained absconding.

In an another development, a police team from Paltan Police Station arrested on Friday a wanted criminal allegedly involved in drug trade and mugging. The arrestee was identified as Md Lalon (34).

A police official at Paltan Police Station said Lalon had been actively involved in mugging and drug trade for a long time.

He also said that 22 cases were pending against Lalon with Paltan, Motijheel, Mugda and Demra police stations.

Legal action will be taken against Lalon and efforts were underway to track down his accomplices, he added.
