Court orders seizure of Nassa Group director Nasrin's assets

A Dhaka court on Wednesday ordered the attachment of two flats in the capital and the freezing of shares in 55 companies owned by Nasrin Islam, director of EXIM Bank and NASSA Group, in connection with corruption allegations involving wealth beyond known sources.
Judge of the Metropolitan Senior Special Judge's Court in Dhaka, Md Jakir Hossain Galib, passed the order after hearing a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Earlier on the day, ACC Assistant Director Muhammad Shihab Salam, who is leading the inquiry team, submitted an application.
Advocate Ruhul Islam Khan moved the petition on behalf of the ACC.
The ACC said in its petition that the anti-graft body is conducting an inquiry into a case filed against Nasrin Islam, wife of NASSA Group Chief Nazrul Islam Mazumder, on charge of amassing wealth worth Tk 202.65 million beyond known source of income.
While investigating, the ACC came to know that Nasrin was trying to hand over and transfer the movable and immovable properties, which may incur a loss to the state, also read the petition.
So, a court order is needed to attach and freeze the properties. Upon hearing, the court allowed the petition.
Earlier on February 4 in 2025, the same court ordered the freezing of 52 bank accounts belonging to former EXIM Bank chairman and NASSA Group chief Nazrul Islam Mazumder, his wife Nasrin Islam, daughter Anika Islam, son Walid Ibne Islam, and their associated institutions.
