A Dhaka court on Thursday ordered confiscation of immoveable property worth Tk 3.68 billion owned by S Alam Group Chairman Mohammed Saiful Alam and his family members.

Judge of the Metropolitan Senior Special Judge's Court in Dhaka Md Zakir Hossain passed the order after hearing a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Earlier in the day, ACC Deputy Director Md Abu Sayeed, the head of the enquiry team, submitted the petition.

ACC Public Prosecutor Mir Ahmed Ali Salam moved the application on behalf of the anti-graft body.

In the application, the ACC official said immovable properties owned by Alam and his family members are located in Dhaka, Narayanganj, and Chattogram districts.

The same court also issued a travel ban on Jahangir Alam, former personal aide to erstwhile prime minister Sheikh Hasina, and his wife Kamrun Nahar in a corruption case filed over amassing wealth of Tk 182.9 million.

Hasina, at a press conference at Ganabhaban on July 14 last year, said she had taken action against a former peon of her residence for amassing Tk 4.0 billion. Later, journalists learnt that the peon was Jahangir Alam.

The court passed the order after ACC Deputy Director Md Rashedul Islam, the investigation officer of the case, submitted a petition in this regard.
