A court in Bhola’s Char Fasson has sentenced three men to death for the brutal murder of two brothers in 2021, whose beheaded remains were later dumped in a septic tank.
The verdict was delivered on Wednesday afternoon by Additional District and Sessions Judge Shawkat Hossain, according to Additional Public Prosecutor Hazrat Ali Hiron.
The convicts are Md Bellal, son of Zafrullah Farazi of Aslampur Union; Md Salauddin, son of Samsuddin; and Md Shariful Islam, son of Shahe Alam Munshi from Ward No. 9 of Char Manika Union.
Barring Shariful, the others remain absconding.
According to case details, victims Tapan Chandra Shil and Dulal Chandra Shil of Ward No. 3 of Char Fasson had sold 0.22 hectares of inherited land before leaving for India. The land was purchased for Tk 2 million by Bellal and his father-in-law, Abu Mozhi, who made a partial down payment of Tk 300,000.
When the brothers returned from India to collect the remaining money, Bellal allegedly began stalling and later conspired to kill them. On the night of Apr 8, 2021, he allegedly lured the brothers to a secluded garden near Sundari Bridge in Aslampur Union, where they were murdered by throat-slitting.
The killers then set the bodies on fire and disposed of the severed heads in a septic tank.
“The victims’ family has finally received justice,” prosecutor Hiron said, adding that they expressed satisfaction with the verdict.
