The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested 167 more people, allegedly involved in various criminal activities, from across the capital city in the last 24 hours till Saturday midnight, said a DMP statement.
The number of arrestees has risen to 1471 individuals for their involvement in various crimes, including mugging, robbery, extortion and theft in the last five days since the DMP heightened the security arrangements since February 25, BSS reports.
The arrestees include 24 active robbers, four extortionists, 10 thieves, 22 identified drug dealers, and 12 wanted in criminal cases.
A foreign pistol, four rounds of bullets, a magazine, a toy pistol, four cocktails, eight knives, two chapatis, two ramdas, 21 mobile phones, one motorcycle, one bicycle, two fake one thousand taka notes and Tk 18.3 lakh in cash were seized during the operation.
The DMP also seized 1759 pieces of yaba, 2.320 kg of ganja and 10 grams of heroin from their possessions.
In the last 24 hours, 66 cases were registered with different police stations of DMP against the arrestees.
Police activities have been intensified in Dhaka Metropolitan Area to maintain public safety and law and order situation.
As part of this, coordinated check posts and patrol activities have been increased in coordination with DMP and other law enforcing agencies.
According to the Crime Command and Control Center of DMP, 575 patrol teams of DMP performed their duties in 50 police stations of Dhaka Metropolitan Police for public safety in 24 hours from 12:01 am to 11:59 pm on Saturday (March 1, 2025).
Apart from these, 65 police checkpoints were conducted by the DMP at various important and strategic locations to increase security in the metropolitan area.
In addition to the patrol teams of the DMP, 14 patrol teams of the CTTC, 12 of the Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) and 10 patrol teams of the DMP and RAB are responsible for various crime-prone areas of the metropolis to maintain public safety and law and order.
Twenty more check posts are operated by the specialized unit of the police, APBN, along with the DMP.
