A suspected drug pedlar was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Shimrail in Narayanganj’s Siddhirganj upazila early Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Farid Mia alias Fenci Farid, a top listed drug pedlar of the area and son of Balai Mia of Tarabo in Rupganj upazila.

Tipped off, a team of RAB-11 conducted a drive in the area in the early hours.

Sensing presence of the elite force, the criminals opened fire on them, forcing them to retaliate, said Alep Uddin, senior assistant director of RAB-11.

The skirmish left two RAB members injured, he added.

One pistol, bullets and some Yaba tablets were recovered from the spot, UNB reports.
