A woman and her younger son were stabbed to death at Basantapur village in Adarsha Sadar upazila of Cumilla on Monday, allegedly by her elder son.
The deceased were identified as Rahela Begum, 65, wife of the late Azgar Ali, and her younger son Kamal Hossain, 35.
Rahela’s elder son, Billal Hossain, has gone into hiding, while his wife, Aklima Khatun, has been detained for questioning, UNB reports.
Police said the incident occurred in the morning when Kamal tried to stop his brother Billal from bringing drugs into the house, leading to a heated altercation.
At one stage, Billal allegedly attacked Kamal with a knife, stabbing him repeatedly and killing him on the spot.
When their mother attempted to intervene, she was also stabbed and died on the way to the hospital.
Mohinul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Model Police Station, confirmed that Billal’s wife is in custody for questioning.
He added that Billal had long been involved in drug trafficking.
The bodies were sent to Comilla Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, he said.
