Police have detained father and stepmother in connection with the mysterious death of an 18-month-old baby girl in Jashore town on Saturday.
They are Pintu and his second wife Parvina, residents of Khorki Dhoparara area of the town.
Jayanta, sub-inspector (SI) of Jashore Kotwali Police Station, said that Pintu and his wife brought the child to Jashore General Hospital around 1pm on Saturday. Doctors declared her dead after examinations, reports UNB.
"As there were several injury marks on her body, we have detained the child's father and stepmother for questioning," added the SI.
Afsar Ahmed, assistant registrar of the paediatrics department, said the child died before being brought to the hospital.
In this regard, Pintu said that Ayesha was physically very weak. She fell down this morning and became unconscious.
Pintu also said that he got divorced with the child's mother Jannatul 4-5 months ago and married Parvina.
