Former IGPs Shahidul, Mamun put on remand in two cases

A Dhaka court on Wednesday granted an eight-day and seven-day remand to interrogate two former chiefs of Bangladesh police, Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun and AKM Shahidul Hoque, in two separate murder cases.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Akhtaruzzaman granted an eight-day remand for immediate past inspector general of police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun over the killing of grocery shop owner Abu Sayed in the Mohammadpur area of Dhaka during the recent anti-discrimination student movement.

Besides, the court placed former IGP AKM Shahidul Hoque on a seven-day remand in a case filed over the killing of businessman Abdul Wadud in the New Market police station area.

Police took the two former police chiefs into their custody in the early hours of Wednesday. Later, they were produced before the court around 6:30 am on Wednesday.
