Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has arrested four suspected human traffickers during a raid in Cox’s Bazar’s Teknaf.
Eight others, including two children were rescued, in the operation, Lt Col Ashiqur Rahman, commander of the Teknaf-2 BGB battalion, said on Tuesday.
The detainees were identified as Asma, 19, Shabnur, 20, Zahura, 43, and Sahara Khatun, 62. They are all residents of Panchhari Para in Sabrang Union.
According to the BGB, a team raided the home of Abdul Motaleb alias Kala Baddar around 11pm on Monday following a tip-off. Six women and two children were found inside and taken to safety, while the four suspects were detained.
Motaleb fled the scene and remains on the run.
Officials said the group had allegedly been luring people with promises of high-paying jobs and cheap trips abroad before attempting to traffic them by sea.
Lt Col Ashikur said the arrestees will handed over to the police once a case is filed.
