Content creator Ashraful Alam, widely known as Hero Alom, has secured bail after being arrested in a case filed by his former wife, accusing him of attempted murder and assault.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rakibul Hasan passed the order on Saturday afternoon. His lawyer Shanta Saksina confirmed the bail.
He was detained on Saturday afternoon from his office at Ulon, Hatirjheel, Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Tejgaon Division Deputy Commissioner Ibn Mizan said.
“He was arrested and sent to court under an outstanding warrant in a physical assault case filed by his wife, Ria Moni,” the DC added.
Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Wahiduzzaman had issued the arrest warrant on Nov 12.
According to the case, Alom divorced Ria Moni following marital disputes and forced her out of their home. He later summoned her to a house in Hatirjheel on Jun 21 on the pretext of resolving the conflict.
The complaint says, when Ria arrived with her family members, Alom and 10–12 unidentified men hurled abuse at them. They then entered Ria’s Hatirjheel residence and beat her with wooden sticks.
The accused also allegedly removed a 17.49g gold chain from her neck during the assault.
Ria filed the case with Hatirjheel Police on Jun 23. After that, Alom reportedly fell ill at a friend’s house in Bogura’s Dhunat after taking excessive sleeping pills.
He was first taken to Dhunat Upazila Health Complex on Jun 27 and later transferred to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital. On the same day, Ria travelled from Dhaka to visit him at the hospital.
Alongside Alom, his “associate” Ahsan Habib Selim was also named as a suspect in the case.
Both men had been out on bail. The court, however, issued arrest warrants after they allegedly failed to appear for scheduled hearings, thereby violating the conditions of their bail.
