The state has given the High Court an account of the actions it has taken following the violence around the arrest and jail order of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, a spokesman for the Sammilito Sanatan Jagaran Jote amid a petition to ban the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, a group he is linked with.

Deputy Attorney General Md Asad Uddin explained the steps taken by the government to the High Court bench of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Debashish Roy Chowdhury on Thursday.

The government is taking firm action, he said, according to a bdnews24.com report.

Three cases have been filed over the incident – one accusing 13 suspects, another accusing 14 suspects, and the third accusing 49 suspects, he said. So far, 33 people have been arrested in connection with the violence. Six more have been identified through CCTV footage. Police are working on the matter and more information will become available following interrogations.

The court then drew the attention of the state to the matter, stating that it was of the utmost importance to ensure there is no loss of life or property and that the public is not concerned.

Then, lawyer Md Moniruzzaman, who had petitioned to ban ISKCON, spoke. In response, the senior justice reiterated the actions taken by the government and expressed the hope that the petitioner’s worries would be put to rest.

The court then refrained from giving an order on the petition.

Supreme Court Advocate Moniruzzaman filed the petition for a ban on ISKCON with the High Court on Wednesday.

He also requested the imposition of a state of emergency in Chattogram and Rangpur.

The High Court then summoned the attorney general to hear the state’s opinion on the matter. The state then submitted its report on Thursday, a day after.
