The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has detained five suspects, including the alleged mastermind, in the stabbing of a doctor near the National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital in Dhaka’s Mohakhali.

In a statement on Tuesday, the elite force said the suspects were detained within 24 hours of the attack.

It added that details would be disclosed at a press conference at the RAB Media Centre in Karwan Bazar later in the day.

The RAB, however, did not reveal the identities of those detained, bdnews24.com reported citing the statement.

The attack took place around 3:30 pm on Monday in an alley behind the old BRAC University building.

The injured doctor, 50-year-old Ahmad Hossain, is a deputy director at the National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital. He was treated at the same hospital after the stabbing.

Police said he was returning home from work when two or three unidentified men stabbed him in the right arm and back before fleeing.

Quoting the injured doctor, police said he had been receiving threats from a foreign number for several days over the awarding of a tender.
