Miscreants, led by a Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader, attacked a post-wedding reception and attempted to abduct the bride in Debidwar Upazila of Cumilla on Friday.

The kidnap bid was foiled by locals, who caught seven of the attackers and handed them over to police, reports UNB.

Yunus, the bride's father-in-law, filed a case on Saturday against nine people, including BCL's Nimsar Junab Ali College unit President Ismail and his associate Sakib, with Debidwar police.

Jahirul Anowar, the police station's in-charge, said the seven miscreants were produced before the court later in the day.

The arrestees said the bride, Fatema Akter, and BCL leader Ismail were involved in a romantic relationship.

Police said a group of BCL activists led by Ismail attacked Fatema's reception programme on Friday and tried to kidnap her. Ismail and Sakib fled the scene after the locals intervened.
