A court has allowed police to question Aman Ullah Sagar, a madrasa teacher in Netrokona’s Madan Upazila, in their custody following his arrest in the rape case of an 11-year-old female student.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Mohsina Islam of the Netrokona Cognisance Court granted a three-day remand for questioning Sagar, said the court's General Registration Officer (GRO) Suhrawardy.

Sagar is the founding director at the Hazrat Fatematuzzahura Women's Qawmi Madrasa, reports bdnews24.com.

GRO Suhrawardy said that the investigating officer of the case had requested a seven-day remand for questioning the accused Sagar. However, after the remand hearing, the judge granted a three-day remand.

Earlier, Sagar was arrested by members of Mymensingh RAB-14 from Gouripur, Mymensingh around 4:15am on Wednesday. RAB handed him over to the police in Madan Upazila on Wednesday evening.

Later that evening, when he was produced before the court, the court ordered that he be sent to jail and set Thursday for the remand hearing.

Citing the case documents, police say the 11-year-old female student has become pregnant after teacher Sagar raped her several times in his own madrasa.

A doctor's examination revealed that the student was seven months pregnant. Later, when the doctor posted about the matter on Facebook, it was brought to public attention.

On Apr 23, the student's mother filed a case at the police station, accusing Md Sagar and his brother Mamun Mia of raping the student.

The case claims that Sagar tried to use his influence in the are to cover up the incident. The plaintiff alleged that he even wanted to settle the matter with money.

Sagar shut down his madrasa and went into hiding after the case was filed.
